Dental Checkups and Cleanings

In order for a patient to avoid serious dental issues over time, we recommend that they should receive at least one professional dental exam every six months. During these appointments, Dr. Branberg will not only examine your teeth but your gums and jaw as well. This will help him understand everything about your oral health and catch any decay or damage as early as possible. If you have any dental restorations, this will also give him a chance to let you know if any should be replaced or updated.

Low-dose Digital X-Rays

Many oral health problems show their initial signs below the surface of the teeth and gums beyond what can be seen with the naked eye, which is why we use X-rays in our dental office every single day. Since upgrading to fully digital X-rays, our patients have enjoyed faster appointments, better understanding, and more peace of mind. Compared to traditional film, digital X-rays take much less time to develop, create more detailed images, and emit 90% less radiation as well.

Adult Prophylaxis

This is really just a standard dental cleaning, in which a hygienist uses special tools to remove harmful plaque and tartar deposits from your teeth and gums that are the underlying cause of decay and infection. Even if you brush and floss your teeth every day, your tools at home are still not able to completely clean every surface in your mouth. Over time, plaque can accumulate in these trouble areas and lead to cavities. By getting regular dental cleanings, however, we can ensure that our patients stay cavity-free year after year.

Deep Cleanings

Gum disease is a bacterial infection that can develop if someone doesn’t brush and floss their teeth consistently, and it’s actually a much more common issue than cavities. This can cause the gums to become inflamed, swollen, and sensitive, and over time, it can even cause tooth loss! A deep cleaning enables our team to remove the buildup of plaque and bacteria below the gum line so a patient’s mouth is able to heal. For some patients, we may recommend that they receive one every three months to ensure the infection goes away and stays gone.

Fluoride Therapy

The reason you’ll find fluoride added to so many oral healthcare products is because it provides a natural way to strengthen the enamel against decay. It’s also been shown to repair the teeth in places where they have already developed minor damage. To help our patients stay healthy between appointments, we can briefly coat their teeth with a highly-concentrated fluoride varnish. The treatment itself only takes about a minute, and it’s a proven method to dramatically lower someone’s risk for cavities.

Bruxism & Nightguards

Teeth grinding, also known as bruxism, is a very common habit that can severely damage the teeth and even strain the jaw if left untreated. Unfortunately, many patients only do it while they are asleep, making it extremely difficult to stop. However, a nightguard can provide a simple solution that fits right in your pocket. It is a small oral appliance worn to bed that places a protective barrier over the rows of teeth which prevents them from coming together, stopping grinding before it starts.

Dry Mouth Treatment

When a patient experiences frequent dry mouth, this can dramatically increase their chances of developing cavities and gum disease. It occurs when the mouth doesn’t produce enough saliva to naturally fight harmful oral bacteria. It can be the result of numerous health issues or a side effect of medication, but in all cases, it presents a risk for oral health. If you frequently feel like there is a desert on your tongue, please let our team know, and we can present you with multiple options to directly address the problem and provide a long-term solution.
